Kama Ashley is a Los Angeles-based mixed media artist whose work blends figurative and abstract forms into layered visual narratives. A retired educator of 32 years, she now fully embraces her lifelong passion for art, creating pieces that celebrate resilience, culture, and the richness of human experience.
Through acrylic, collage, and textured elements, Kama captures the energy of movement and the emotional depth of her subjects. Her use of color, line, and organic shapes evokes the quiet strength of nature alongside the vibrant pulse of human expression, inviting viewers to connect personally with each story on the canvas.
“My work is an expression of the hope and resilience that exists in all of us. I paint to capture moments of joy, love, and the beauty of life—the emotions that help us move through pain and uncertainty. Each brushstroke is an invitation to pause, smile, and feel the uplifting energy that art can bring. I want my paintings to be a source of happiness and encouragement, a reminder that light and love can always be found.”
Kama’s work has been featured in galleries, restaurants, and pop-up exhibitions throughout Los Angeles and is held in private collections nationwide. Every piece reflects her dedication to craft, culture, and creating a meaningful emotional impact,

Each artwork in The Top of the Game series is brought to life with authentic, textured details drawn directly from the world of sport. Kobe’s piece incorporates genuine basketball leather; Jackie’s bat is accented with real wood; and Venus and Serena’s rackets are strung with actual material, with the names of their doubles matches embedded within. Tiger’s work weaves in the names and elements of courses he helped design, while Ali’s gloves are crafted with true leather. Magic’s basketball carries the texture of the game itself, and Misty’s bodysuit and slippers are elevated with satin fabric.
These layers of authenticity transform each painting into more than an image—they become tactile narratives, connecting the spirit of the athlete with the enduring legacy of their game.
